On iOS you find people and start conversations from the chat list. Search or scan a profile QR code to reach people already on White Noise, and send an invitation to everyone else.
Start a chat with someone
- In the chat list, tap New Message to open the New Chat screen.
- Search for the person, or tap Scan QR Code and scan their profile code, then select them.
- If you already have a conversation with this person, White Noise asks which one to continue. Tap it, or tap Start new conversation.
Expected result: the conversation opens. When you search by Nostr address, a Verified badge marks an address White Noise has confirmed.
Invite someone
On the New Chat screen, tap Invite to White Noise. Then tap Share Invite and choose how to send it.
Start a group
- On the New Chat screen, tap New Group.
- Select people. They appear under Selected.
- Tap Continue to open Set Up Group.
A group that starts with just you needs a name. Unnamed groups display their members' names instead, and you can add members after creating the group.

Open Share & Connect to share your profile URL or picture, or to show your QR code. See Your profile on iOS.
Fix common problems
- If an address search comes up empty, check the spelling or ask the person to share their profile URL or QR code.
- If White Noise reports that it couldn't check an address, check your connection and tap Retry.
- If a chat fails to start, tap Retry.
- When a chat shows as unavailable, it may still be syncing. Wait a moment, then tap Retry.
If QR Scanning Unavailable appears, follow its explanation. For denied camera access, tap Open Settings and allow camera access for White Noise. For a busy or interrupted camera, close the other camera app or wait, then tap Try Again. Use White Noise full screen if requested. Device restrictions or a missing camera require another way to connect, such as a profile URL.
